Job Summary:

Owl is hiring a Software (Systems) Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join our team. This is role focused on bridging the product development & test methodologies to maximize testability and automation support for products under development.
In this position, you will be expected to understand, create, setup, perform, and direct tests to validate new product designs and features in depth.  This will require you to develop rigorous test strategies to cover the product under test develop environments and tools to realize those tests and execute those strategies via repeatable test cases to determine the overall quality of new products. This role will challenge you consider the edge cases of a design and to develop efficient automated methods of testing as they are critical to success.

Your efforts will contribute to the successful testing of complex systems, ensuring the delivery of products with the highest quality that meet the needs of the customer base.

The ability to make actionable decisions based off all currently known information is a must. A successful candidate is independent, organized, methodical, resourceful, energetic, a fast learner, and open to new ideas / experiences. 





Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Understand complex hardware/software systems to create and execute test efforts to validate and verify that system behaviors align with requirements and customer expectations.
  • Analyze functional and technical system design for testability; Work closely with software developers to develop test specifications
  • Design, develop, implement and maintain automated system tests to ensure efficient and effective project testing strategies are employed to ensure the quality and reliability of software applications and products.
  • Design and execute manual and automated tests
  • Write and Triage defects

Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Education
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field required (Advanced degree desired)
  • Experience
    • 3-5+ years of combined experience in Software Quality Assurance/Test Engineering or Software Development with demonstrated experience owning project objectives/deliverables
 
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Strong knowledge of mobile backend development or web development
    • Strong knowledge of a compiled programming language.
    • Knowledge of software testing methodologies, tools, and processes
    • Experience with TCP / UDP networking protocols and testing functionality with those protocols
      • Experience testing / manipulating data within OSI layer 6 and 7 (preferred)
    • Experience working within Linux based environments (ex. RHEL 8, 9)
    • Experience reading and writing code in scripting languages (ex. Python, Rust)
 
  • Additional Competencies/Requirements
    • Be an analytical, detail-oriented thinker with a strong desire to be a hands-on contributor
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Pro-active problem-solving skills
    • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process
    • US Citizenship is required as candidates must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance.
