Job Summary:

Owl is recruiting for several engineering internships for the Summer of 2025 across the following areas:
 
  • Software Development
  • DevOps
  • Quality & Test Engineering
  • Systems Engineering
  • Hardware Engineering

Our internship positions offer the opportunity to work with experienced engineers and will contribute to the development, testing, integration, and support of various Owl products across a number of cybersecurity product lines. Successful candidates should have experience working on Linux platforms for development and test efforts across various development languages.

Owl's internships require an on site presence for hands on work, and mentoring. Candidates must be able to be local to an Owl office location (Columbia, MD, Danbury, CT or Morrisville, NC) for the Summer to work a hybrid schedule of ~2-3 days in the office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Follow best practices for Red Hat Enterprise Linux Operating System, configuration for security, application of updates, modifying Owl software configuration for both existing and new solutions
  • Create RPMs of software
  • Define systems to meet security best practices (STIGs/CIS)
  • Implement Linux solutions to support the security control standards
  • Setup and Test new hardware platforms that are developed
  • Scripting using Python and/or Bash
  • Configure Owl Applications and define tests plans to match system requirements
  • Support the Owl Product Development Life Cycle
  • Track open issues and assist in future release planning
  • Other duties as management may so direct

Qualifications:
  • Coursework leading to a college degree in a relevant field of study. (i.e., engineering, computer science, physics, etc.)
  • Previous Internships or other work in the field is highly desirable
  • Technical Skills:
    • Experience in C, C++, and/or Java
      • Scripting experience with Python, and/or Bash
    • Knowledge of Unix/Linux systems
    • Experience with debugging software such as gdb
    • Experience with unit testing frameworks such as CUnit and Unittest
    • Knowledge of networking protocols such as TCP/IP and UDP/IP
    • Experience with version control software (i.e. Git, Subversion, CVS) a plus
  • Soft Skills:
    • Must have good communication skills, verbal and written
    • Able to work in team environments and be open to mentoring
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
    • Ability to prioritize to complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Candidates must be able to obtain/maintain a US Government security clearance
