Job Summary:
Owl seeking a passionate and skilled SRE/DevOps Engineer to join our team. This role focuses on supporting our internal teams, enabling their success by maintaining reliable systems, automating workflows, and responding to incidents with empathy and expertise. The ideal candidate thrives in a Linux-focused environment, has a strong background in system monitoring and automation, and demonstrates a user-first mindset to unblock productivity and improve operational efficiency.
Your efforts will contribute to the successful development and testing of complex systems, ensuring the delivery of products with the highest quality that meet the needs of the customer base.
The ability to make actionable decisions based off all currently known information is a must. A successful candidate is independent, organized, methodical, resourceful, energetic, a fast learner, and open to new ideas / experiences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide user-focused support, ensuring teams remain productive by resolving technical issues efficiently.
Monitor and maintain system health through proactive log review, outage management, and robust incident response practices.
Develop and implement automation solutions using Bash or Python.
Manage and optimize infrastructure, including virtualization environments such as VMware and tools like Terraform and Kubernetes.
Collaborate with teams to enhance CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins and TeamCity.
Maintain and configure Linux systems, with a preference for expertise in RHEL environments.
Work with system monitoring and log collection tools to ensure reliability and visibility.
Manage code repositories and version control using Git, promoting best practices across teams.
Support configuration management and deployment processes using tools like Ansible and IaC methodologies.
Contribute to tool integration and platform support, including Jira, Confluence, GitLab and Artifactory.
Assist in network-related tasks, with a preference for candidates with experience configuring managed switches or holding network certifications.
Liaison and collaborate with Owl IT for joint operations.
Lead more junior level engineers and/or interns.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Education
Bachelors’ degree or higher in Software Engineering or related field required.
Experience
5-8 years of experience in experience in an SRE, DevOps, or similar role.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong programming skills in Python (required).
Experience with TCP / UDP networking.
Experience with version control systems such as Git (required).
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Strong understanding of development processes.
Experience code collaboration tools such as GitLab (preferred).
Experience managing git repositories, branch management, and development workflow.
Strong experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or TeamCity (preferred).
Experience with Virtualization, such as VMware (preferred).
Experience tracking tasking and internal wiki content via Jira/Confluence.
Working knowledge of Red Hat Linux and its derivatives (Fedora, CentOS). RHCSA is a plus, but not necessary.
US Citizenship required as candidates must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance.
